Description

Own Your Dance: Confidence, connection and an equal voice in the partnership.

The focus of this weekend is on follower agency, helping followers become more confident, active and expressive partners who can listen without becoming passive and contribute without losing the connection.

The central foundation of this workshop is, "I can listen to my partner without losing myself, and my contribution belongs in the dance".

Over two days, this workshop is structured as follows:

Day One - Find Your Ground We focus on balance, rhythm, grounded movement and active listening. We explore the difference between responding and anticipating, how followers can remain responsible for their own movement, and how connection can become a genuine two way conversation.

Day Two - Find Your Voice This day give followers practical tools for making choices within the dance. We work with rhythm, timing, texture, and movement quality; recognising where there is space to contribute; and how to offer an idea clearly enough for a partner to notice and respond.

This two day workshop is designed particularly with followers in mind, although dancers of any role would still be welcome. Many of the exercises work between two followers through shared movement, call and response, and taking turns to initiate, listen and respond, without anyone needing to know how to lead Lindy Hop patterns.

Levels This is open to followers at all levels- newer intermediates will find the workshops accessible and useful whilst experienced dancers can explore the themes in great depth.  Returning dancers will find confidence in connection and expression rather than focussing on complicated moves.
