Description

Saturday 7th November, 1:30-5:30pm @ One Church Brighton

This is an incredible opportunity to learn with internationally renowned dancers Katie Cobalt and Sean Vitale right here in Brighton. We are bringing THEM to YOU! In fact Sean is coming all the way from the USA - so don't miss this dynamic duo while they're in town.

As teaching partners, Katie and Sean's enthusiasm and energy are infectious - they love supporting people in their growth as dancers. This workshop will explore partner connection on the social floor and give us more tools to really enjoy our dancing. We will push ourselves but it will also be a whole lot of fun!

The workshop will be in two parts:

  • Fast Dancing - How to dance FAST while keeping your COOL

When the fast song comes on you don't have to run to the bar! We are going to give you some tips and tricks to dance speedy without becoming a sweaty mess.

  • MAGIC on the dance floor - Social dancing that SPARKLES

It's always spectacular when something happens on the social floor that neither partner expected and yet somehow it worked! In this class we're going to work on how to build your communication skills to make those magical moments happen.

SCHEDULE

  • 1.30-3 part one
  • break
  • 3.30-5 part two
  • 5-5.30 practice time with teacher guidance

ABOUT YOUR TEACHERS

Katie Cobalt (she/they) tried many different dance styles before falling in love with Swing. The freedom of improvisation, the satisfaction of rhythm and the deep historical and Black cultural roots of the dance made her want to learn more. She is now known for her classroom energy, musicality, and infectious enthusiasm for all things Jazz. When it comes to dance, they deeply value self expression and fully committing to the idea. As a teacher, she focuses on individually helping her students on their own dance journeys and finds so much joy in seeing them grow.

Katie holds multiple first place titles at International Lindy Hop Championships, Balkan Lindy Hop Championships and Savoy Cup. When not throwing down in international competitions they are teaching all over the world in more than 20 countries sharing what they have learned. When not on the dance floor you might find them in a hip hop class or on the stage at their local drag bar as Azure Thang.

Sean Vitale is a dynamic dancer with a love for jazz music and movement. Sean has been Lindy Hopping since 2018 and is grateful to be a part of the cast of the acclaimed stage show, Sw!ng Out. Sean is a prominent member of the NYC based dance troupe, The Harvest Moon Hoppers. Sean is also a past member of Frankie Manning’s legacy troupe,The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers. As a partnered dance specialist, Sean excels at improvisation and has won many partnered improvisation (luck of the draw) competitions throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Beyond his work as a dancer and educator, Sean is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, board certified in the treatment of people affected by neurologic conditions such as, Parkinson’s disease, MS, stroke, and spinal cord injury.
